Our Organisation


Voices of Africa Media Foundation is registered under Dutch law as a foundation.

The organisation coordinates its activities from its office in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Training programmes are executed by local professionals who are responsible for selection, training and coaching of reporters. The operational team is supported by a Supervisory Board.
 
Our Team
The focus of the team in the Netherlands is on fundraising and supporting the realisation of its mission in Africa. The team is supported by a growing number of volunteers.
 
Pim de WitPim de Wit, Director, works on pro bono basis, former CEO Sanoma Publishing Company in the Netherlands until 2005.


Henri AaldersHenri Aalders, Programme Manager, worked for the UN in Benin and Haiti, the ministry of Agriculture in the Netherlands and as a Management Consultant for Capgemini.



Annelies van Velden, Programme Manager, was posted by Mensen met een Missie at a local NGO in Kenya with a focus on of youth empowerment and income generation.



Olivier Nyirubugara, Senior Coach and Content Coordinator,  originally from Rwanda, used to work as a journalist in Central Africa, currently PHD student Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam.



Regional coordination
The regional coordinators are responsible for selection, training and coaching of reporters.

Khamis Ramadhan, Regional Coordinator East Africa, is an independent journalist and filmmaker of great renown based in Nairobi, Kenya.



Nana Kofi Acquah, Regional Coordinator  West Africa,  is an experienced photo journalists who joined Voices of Africa in the early pilot phases.



Supervisory Board

Board members are media experts and representatives from government and non-profit organizations. The roles and responsibilities of the board include governing  the foundation, developing partnerships with organisations and acting as ambassadors to create a more balanced image of Africa in the media.

Frans Slangen, Chairman, Chairman of the KRO (Catholic Radio Broadcast) until 2008; also chairman of the Supervisory Board of Cordaid.



Fred Arp, Treasurer, CFO and Member of the Executive Board of Telegraaf Media Group; member of the board of the World Association of Newspapers.




Lot Carlier. Worked as a publisher of new media and magazines for Sanoma Publishing Company, Member of the board of the Women Win Foundation.



Corinne Heijn, Founder and President of 'Women in Leadership'; member of the Supervisory Board of the Triodos Bank Microfinance funds.




Erik van Heijningen, Member of the Provincial Executive board of the Province of Zuid-Holland, the Netherlands.




Dirk KamDirk Kam, Entrepreneur and involved in a number of development projects in Africa.




Our Partners
The foundation has received financial support from various individuals and NGOs including HIVOS, WWF, KICI and the ASN Fund. We receive technical support from Africa Interactive, a media company that provides a publication platform for successful news stories, and other companies.
