    The Voices of Africa Media Foundation (VOAMF), has won the Best of the Blogs Awards (BOBs) organized by Deutsche Welle (DW) in Bonn , Germany . The VOAM won the Best Video Blog category and the gathering went agog when three reporters of the Foundation from Ghana , Camerooon and Kenya were invited to join the celebration after displaying their Nokia N73 phones.

    Receiving the award the Managing Director of the Foundation Pim De Wit thanked the jury for the selection but was more grateful to the young Africa reporters of the foundation urging them to continue to work harder. According to the Director the objective of the project is to help talented Africans build a career in media, using currently available technologies to stimulate citizen journalism that can promote democracy and good governance in Africa .

    He said the Foundation which is non profit organization trains young reporters in Africa for 7 months by given them Nokia N73 phones,keyboards,trainind DVD ,magazines and newsletters to assist them in producing quality videos, pictures and txt stories within their communities. “This is opportunity for the young reporters to make their voices be heard larger to the international community and also to promote democracy within their society. These young reporters are paid every month to serve as a motivation to them.” Those who take part in the Voices of Africa project are known as 'camjos', a short term for 'camera journalist'. Each camjo receives training on the use of the phone and is coached during the first 7 months.

    Conspicuously, missing from the ward ceremony were the Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez, winner of the international weblog awards. The Cuban authority rejected her request to attend the event. Winner of the best Chinese blog, Liu Xiaoyuan, the winner of the Reporters Without Borders Award, Zeng Jinyan. Zeng Jinyan remains under house arrest and she happens to be the wife of the detained Human Rights activist Hu Jia.
